Introduction

A gas discharge tube is a single-gap or multi-gap switch-type protective device formed by filling a space enclosed by metal electrodes and metallized ceramics with inert gas or other mixed gas discharge media at a certain ratio, then hermetically sealing at high temperature. When the protected circuit or equipment is subjected to surge stress, the discharge tube transitions from a high-impedance state to a low-impedance state, diverting surge energy to ground, reducing the residual voltage across the circuit, and thereby protecting the equipment circuit or personnel from transient overvoltage damage.
