Introduction

The TCS3408 features ambient light and color (RGB) sensing, along with flicker detection, with suppression of 940nm infrared crosstalk from adjacent circuitry such as time-of-flight sensors. The device comes in a low-profile, compact package measuring 2.5mm (L) x 2.0mm (W) x 0.5mm (H). The ambient light and color sensing function provides five concurrent ambient light sensing channels: red, green, blue, clear, and wideband. The RGB and clear channels incorporate UV/IR blocking filters. This architecture enables precise ambient light measurement and supports calculation of illuminance, chromaticity, and color temperature for display appearance management. The device integrates direct detection of 50Hz or 60Hz ambient light flicker. Flicker detection operates concurrently with ambient light and color sensing, with independent gain configuration. The flicker detection engine can also buffer data to facilitate external computation of additional flicker frequencies.
