Introduction

4056D is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery CC/CV linear charger with battery positive/negative reverse polarity protection. The ESOP8 package with a bottom heat sink pad and minimal external component count make the 4056D an ideal choice for portable applications. The 4056D is suitable for operation with both USB power supplies and adapter power supplies. It employs an internal PMOSFET architecture with anti-backflow circuitry, eliminating the need for an external isolation diode. Thermal feedback automatically adjusts the charge current to limit die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The charge termination voltage is 4.2V, and the charge current can be set externally via a single resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after the final float voltage is reached, the 4056D automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage is removed, the 4056D automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 0.2µA. Additional features of the 4056D include power supply auto-adaptation, battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two LED status pins for charge and end-of-charge indication.
