Introduction

The AWM3000 Series microbridge mass airflow sensors operate on the principle that airflow across the surface of the sensing element causes heat transfer. The output voltage is proportional to the mass of air or other gas flowing through the inlet and outlet ports of a given sensor. Current sink/source, with maximum current ratings of 10 mA sink and 20 mA source, is controlled by the LM224 op-amp in the output stage of the instrumentation amplifier. The medium flowing through the sensor should be free of condensed moisture and particulate contaminants. Cover both ports during cleaning, as certain solvents may attack the epoxy used to seal the die tube to the ceramic substrate. The sensor should be firmly attached to the PCB before soldering. Response time is typically 1 ms from 10% to 90%, with an initial warm-up time of up to 1 minute for the signal conditioning circuit. The output voltage is ratiometric to the supply voltage.
