Introduction

4 - 20 mA output analog current sensors designed for any AC current monitoring application to monitor specific equipment. "Average" type current sensors are suitable for applications where the sinusoidal waveform on the monitored conductor is free of distortion or noise, such as monitoring resistive loads (e.g., incandescent lamps, heating elements) and any single-speed linear loads. "True RMS" sensors are applicable to all applications, as they provide the best overall accuracy for applications including variable frequency drives, switching power supplies, computers and data centers, electronic ballasts, SCRs, and variable-speed loads. For monitoring currents exceeding 250 amperes, the CTA2-5 and SCTA2-5 are suitable for use with current transformers with a 5A output ratio, reducing the current in the monitored conductor to a proportional 0 to 5A output signal. Current sensors are available in solid-core and split-core versions, and include a patented (Patent No.: US 7,416,421) 35mm DIN rail mounting foot for easy installation in panel-mount applications. Solid-core versions are suitable for new installations or OEM applications that are cost-sensitive, require lower trip points, and have environmental concerns such as dust and moisture. Split-core current sensors are ideal for retrofit applications and service technician vehicles, as one or two components can cover most applications and can be easily installed without disconnecting any wires.
