Introduction
FOD8334 is an advanced 4.0 A peak output current IGBT gate drive optocoupler capable of driving medium-power IGBTs rated up to 1200 V and 150 A. It is suitable for fast switching drive of power IGBTs and MOSFETs in motor control inverter applications and high-performance power supply systems. The FOD8334 provides the protection functions necessary to prevent fault conditions that can lead to destructive IGBT thermal runaway. The device employs Fairchild's proprietary Optoplanar® coplanar package technology and optimized IC design to achieve reliable high isolation and high noise immunity, featuring high common-mode rejection and power supply rejection specifications. The device is housed in a wide-body, 16-pin, small-outline plastic package. The gate drive channel is optically coupled by an aluminum gallium arsenide (AlGaAs) LED and an integrated high-speed drive circuit with a low R<sub>DS(ON)</sub> MOSFET output stage. The fault sense channel is optically coupled by an AlGaAs LED and an integrated high-speed feedback circuit for fault sensing.
