Introduction

The AM2952 and AM2953 are members of the Advanced Micro Devices AM2900 family, designed for use as parallel data input/output ports. Two 8-bit back-to-back registers store data moving bidirectionally between two bidirectional tri-state buses. On-chip flag flip-flops set automatically when registers are loaded, providing handshake signals for demand-driven data transfers. The AM2952/AM2953 offer considerable flexibility, providing separate clock, clock enable, and tri-state output enable signals for each register, and edge-sensitive clear inputs for each flag flip-flop. Multiple such devices can be used to implement wider I/O ports. Both inverting and non-inverting versions are available. The AM2952/AM2953 provide 24mA output current sink capability, sufficient for most tri-state bus applications. The AM2952A and AM2953A, fabricated using AMD's Ion-Implanted Micro-Oxide (11×0×^TM) process, are direct drop-in replacements for the AM2952 and AM2953 respectively, with approximately 30% higher speed.
