Introduction

This compact sensor features a short-range laser module that detects objects by precisely measuring the time taken for infrared laser pulses to travel to the nearest object and return. Its performance is largely unaffected by target reflectivity and ambient lighting conditions. The sensor continuously performs distance measurements and uses a single digital output to indicate whether an object is detected within its sensing range. The output is driven low when an object is detected; otherwise, the output is high. The sensor only indicates whether an object is present within the detection range along the line of sight — it does not provide specific distance information. Hysteresis is applied at the maximum range threshold to ensure clean output transitions as objects cross the threshold. The sensor is capable of detecting objects as close as approximately 1 mm from its surface.
