Introduction

The TMD2772/TMD2772WA series devices provide digital ambient light sensing (ALS), a complete proximity detection system, and digital interface logic in a single 8-pin SMT module. These devices are register-setting and pin-compatible with the TMD2771 series, and feature new and improved ALS and proximity detection capabilities with 25° and 50° fields of view. ALS enhancements include a reduced gain mode that extends the operating range in direct sunlight. Proximity detection offers improved SNR performance and more precise factory calibration. A proximity offset register compensates for optical crosstalk between the IR LED and the sensor. To prevent misreadings in proximity data measurements, a proximity saturation indicator bit signals when the internal analog circuitry has reached saturation. The TMD2772/TMD2772WA ALS is based on ams's patented dual-diode technology, enabling accurate results across a wide range of lighting conditions while approximating the human eye's response to light intensity. The proximity detection system includes an LED driver and an IR LED that are factory-trimmed to eliminate end-device calibration due to component variations.
