Introduction

LGS5160 is a step-down DC/DC regulator with integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs. Operating in skip-cycle control mode, it combines low quiescent current with high switching frequency to achieve high efficiency across a wide load current range. In skip mode, the internal power MOSFETs switch inductor current in short "burst" cycles followed by sleep periods. During sleep, the power switches turn off and the load current is supplied by the output capacitor. Under light-load conditions, the burst cycle occupies only a small fraction of the total period, minimizing average supply current and significantly improving light-load efficiency. The device features a wide 4.5V to 65V input voltage range, minimizing the need for external surge suppression components, making it ideal for industrial applications with wide input voltage ranges and multi-cell battery pack applications. The internal power MOSFETs feature on-resistance of 130mΩ and 95mΩ respectively, supporting up to 3A output current with excellent load and line transient response. The regulator supports wide-range output voltage adjustment and is suitable for diverse application environments, particularly 48V automotive power bus applications. Additional features include soft-start, thermal shutdown, UVLO, gate driver UVLO, maximum duty cycle limit timer, and intelligent current limit shutdown timer. It also integrates output short-circuit protection with hiccup mode when feedback voltage is too low, preventing overheating during short-circuit conditions.
