IS801Q is a monolithic oscillator/power driver designed for compact, isolated power supplies in isolated interface applications. The IS801Q can drive the primary of a slim center-tapped transformer from a 3.3V or 5V DC supply, while the secondary winding turns ratio is determined by the required output isolation voltage. The IS801Q provides complementary output signals to drive ground-referenced N-channel power switches. In addition to internal break-before-make (BBM) logic between the two switches, the IS801Q integrates VCC undervoltage protection and thermal shutdown protection. The added spread-spectrum clocking helps pass system EMI testing. The IS801Q is housed in a compact SOT23-5 package and is specified for an operating temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
The IS801Q is a transformer driver designed for low-cost, compact, isolated DC-DC converters using a push-pull topology. The device consists of an oscillator followed by a gate driver, which includes a frequency divider and BBM logic that provides two complementary output signals to alternately turn two output transistors on and off. The oscillator output frequency is divided by an asynchronous frequency divider, which generates two complementary 50% duty cycle output signals. BBM logic is implemented by inserting dead time between the high pulses of the two output signals. Since either gate can output a logic high, there must be a brief period during which both signals are low and both transistors are in a high-impedance state. This brief period is referred to as the break-before-make time, which prevents a short circuit across the primary. To facilitate passing system EMI testing, the IS801Q oscillator also incorporates a spread-spectrum scheme. In addition, the IS801Q integrates VCC undervoltage fault detection and thermal shutdown modules.
