Introduction

This product provides an integrated brushed DC motor driver solution for battery-powered toys, low-voltage or battery-powered motion control applications. The circuit integrates an H-bridge driver designed with N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs, suitable for driving brushed DC motors or a single winding of a stepper motor. The circuit features a wide operating voltage range (2V to 11V), a maximum continuous output current of 2.1A (ESOP), and a maximum peak output current of 3.5A. The driver circuit incorporates built-in over-temperature protection. When the load current through the driver significantly exceeds the maximum continuous current rating, the junction temperature of the internal die rises rapidly due to the thermal dissipation limitations of the package. Once the junction temperature exceeds the set threshold (typical value 150°C), the internal circuitry immediately shuts down the output power transistors to cut off the load current, preventing continued temperature rise that could cause the plastic package to smoke or catch fire, posing safety hazards. The built-in thermal hysteresis circuit ensures that the circuit is allowed to be re-controlled only after it has returned to a safe temperature.
