Introduction

GR7889 is a high-power single-channel DC motor driver IC designed for low-voltage operating systems. It employs an H-bridge driver built with low on-resistance PMOS and NMOS power transistors, ensuring low power dissipation under continuous high-current operation and enabling stable long-term functionality. The GR7889 integrates a thermal protection function. When a low-impedance motor stalls or an output short circuit occurs, the output current surges instantaneously, causing a rapid rise in power dissipation and chip temperature. Once the chip temperature exceeds the maximum threshold set by the internal thermal protection circuit (typical value 130°C), the internal circuitry shuts down the chip output and cuts off the load current, thereby eliminating safety hazards such as smoke or fire from the plastic package due to overheating. The built-in thermal hysteresis circuit ensures the chip output can only be re-enabled after the temperature has recovered to a safe level. The GR7889 requires minimal external components, offers low cost, and is easy to design in.
