Introduction

PT4056 is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery CC/CV linear charger. The SOP8 package with a bottom heat sink pad, combined with minimal external components, makes the PT4056 ideal for portable applications. The PT4056 is suitable for both USB power supply and adapter power supply operation.

The internal PMOSFET architecture, along with the reverse-charge protection circuit, eliminates the need for an external isolation diode. Thermal feedback automatically adjusts the charge current to limit the die temperature during high-power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charge current can be externally set via a single resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after reaching the final float voltage, the PT4056 automatically terminates the charge cycle.

When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power supply) is removed, the PT4056 automatically enters a low-current, low-power state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2μA. The PT4056 can also be placed in shutdown mode when power is present, reducing supply current to 60μA. Additional features of the PT4056 include battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two LED status pins for indicating charge and end-of-charge status.
