Introduction

GN4056 is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery charger using constant-current/constant-voltage linear charging. Its SOP8 package with an exposed heatsink pad on the bottom, combined with minimal external components, makes the GN4056 an ideal choice for portable applications. The GN4056 is compatible with both USB power sources and adapter power sources.

The internal PMOSFET architecture, along with reverse charge protection circuitry, eliminates the need for an external isolation diode. Thermal feedback automatically adjusts the charge current to limit die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charge current can be externally set via a single resistor. When the charge current drops to a preset threshold after reaching the final float voltage, the GN4056 automatically terminates the charge cycle.

When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power) is removed, the GN4056 automatically enters a low-current, low-power state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2uA. The GN4056 can also be placed into shutdown mode when power is present, reducing supply current to 60uA. Additional features of the GN4056 include battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two LED status pins for indicating charge status and charge termination.
