Introduction

The XD14518 dual BCD counter employs MOS P-channel and N-channel enhancement-mode devices integrated into a single monolithic structure. Each counter consists of two identical, independent, and internally synchronous 4-stage counters. The counter stages are D-type flip-flops whose clock and enable lines are interchangeable, allowing incrementing on either the rising or falling edge as required when cascading multiple stages. Each counter can be cleared by applying a logic high to the reset line. In addition, the XD14518 recovers from all undefined states within two clock cycles. These complementary MOS increment counters are primarily intended for multistage synchronous or ripple counting applications requiring low power consumption and/or high noise immunity.
