Introduction

The IP178Gx is fabricated using advanced CMOS (85nm) technology and requires only a single 3.3V power supply. This enables extremely low power consumption — for example, only 0.95W under full load (100Mbps full-duplex, 8-port operation).

The IP178Gx also supports green power features including Power Management Tool for IEEE 802.3az (PWMT®), Auto Power Saving (APS), Wake-on-LAN Enhanced (WOL+), and Power-Down energy saving (PWD). When two connected devices do not support IEEE 802.3az, the IP178Gx uses WOL+ to switch the link from 100Mbps to 10Mbps to conserve power.

The IP178Gx PWD forced power-down feature is designed to immediately cut power to the switch with a single button press, eliminating the need for users to unplug the power adapter. Pressing the button again will immediately restore power.

In addition to low power consumption and comprehensive energy-saving methods, the IP178Gx supports Auto Factory Test (AFT®) to reduce customer testing costs. Using a single button and cable, the IP178Gx will complete testing automatically.
