Introduction

MC9721 is a monolithic slave interface IC designed specifically for M-Bus applications compliant with the EN1434-3 standard. The interface circuit accommodates potential differences between slave and master stations, with polarity-independent bus connection. The IC can be powered by the master station through the bus, requiring no separate power supply at the slave end, thereby avoiding additional load on the slave's battery. During data reception, the built-in dynamic level detection circuit self-adapts according to bus length. The transmitter uses a fixed 20mA current source. In addition to the M-Bus-compliant transceiver circuitry, the IC integrates an onboard 5V and 3.3V DC voltage regulator to support applications with varying power load requirements. The MC9721 features an 8-pin design in a compact SOP8_EP package, helping to minimize PCB area while achieving a highly reliable, high-performance M-Bus terminal bus interface with minimal external components.
