Introduction

CA-IS305x is an isolated Controller Area Network (CAN) transceiver compliant with the ISO 11898-2 physical layer specification. The logic input and output buffers within this device family are isolated via silicon dioxide (SiO₂) insulation barriers, capable of withstanding isolation voltages up to 3750V_RMS / 5000V_RMS / 7500V_RMS (60s) (DUB8 package / wide-body SOIC package / extra-wide-body SOIC package) and a typical CMTI of ±150kV/μs. The insulation barrier breaks the ground loop between the logic side and bus side, helping to reduce noise caused by high ground potential differences between ports and ensuring correct data transmission.

CA-IS305x operates from a single +2.5V to +5.5V supply on the logic side, facilitating connection to CAN controllers at different voltage levels. Combined with an external isolated power supply, it forms a complete isolated CAN port. The transceiver supports data rates up to 1Mbps and provides current limiting protection, thermal protection, and ±58V overvoltage protection at the transmitter output. Dominant state timeout detection prevents bus lockup caused by controller errors or TXD input faults. In addition, the CAN receiver input of this device family features a ±30V common-mode input range (CMR), far exceeding the –2V to +7V range defined by the ISO 11898 specification, providing reliable system protection.

CA-IS3050 and CA-IS3052 are available in 8-pin wide-body SOIC and 16-pin wide-body SOIC packages, compatible with most industry-standard isolated CAN transceivers. CA-IS3050 is also available in a DUB8 package with a rated isolation voltage of 3750V_RMS, and an 8-pin extra-wide-body SOIC package with a rated isolation voltage of 7500V_RMS. All devices operate over a temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
