Introduction

The Am9568 Data Encryption Processor is an N-channel silicon gate LSI product containing the circuitry required to encrypt and decrypt data using the National Bureau of Standards encryption algorithm. It is designed for use in a variety of environments including dedicated controllers, communications concentrators, terminals, and peripheral task processors in general-purpose processor systems.

The Data Encryption Processor provides high throughput using cipher feedback, electronic codebook, or cipher block chaining modes of operation. Separate ports for key input, plaintext data, and encrypted data enhance security.

The system communicates with the Data Encryption Processor through commands entered via the master port and auxiliary control lines. Once set up, data can flow through the Data Encryption Processor at high speed, as input, output, and encryption activities all occur simultaneously. In certain system configurations, external DMA control can be easily employed to increase throughput.

The device is designed to interface directly with iAPX86, 88 CPU buses, and with 2900 and 8051 family processors through minimal external logic.
