Introduction
The MitySOM-AM62 series is a highly configurable, compact processor module based on the Texas Instruments Sitara AM62x processor. The module incorporates an (optional) eMMC flash, (optional) octal- or quad-wire SPI NOR flash, and a DDR4 RAM memory subsystem, providing a complete and flexible CPU infrastructure for highly integrated embedded systems. The onboard AM62x processor features up to quad-core Cortex-A53 64-bit RISC processors with NEON SIMD coprocessors. The MPU is capable of running feature-rich RTOS environments and supports the software API required by modern system designers. The ARM architecture supports multiple operating systems including Linux and Android. In addition to the Cortex-A53, the AM62x series offers up to a single-core Arm Cortex-M4F MCU running at up to 400 MHz and dual-core 32-bit programmable real-time units running at up to 333 MHz. The Cortex-M4F and PRU are RISC processors that operate independently of the main Cortex-A53 MPU complex, with access to all on-chip peripherals and external memory, and can be used for any purpose. Typical applications include managing EtherCAT master interfaces, providing safety-critical software operations, or real-time processing of connected peripherals. PRU applications include implementing custom industrial protocols including ModBus. The module provides primary connectivity through a standard DDR4 SO-DIMM-260 card-edge interface, which delivers power, synchronous serial connections, and many other interfaces provided by the Sitara processor. The module includes up to 4 GB of onboard DDR4 RAM, with a burst transfer rate of up to 3200 MB/s on the memory bus interface. Optional onboard eMMC flash up to 128 GB is connected via the MMC0 interface peripheral and is typically used to store bootloaders, ARM Linux/Android embedded root filesystems, runtime ARM software, and runtime application data. Optional onboard octal- or quad-wire SPI NOR flash up to 256 MB is connected via the OSPI/QSPI peripheral interface, suited for applications requiring more reliable/fault-tolerant storage or faster access times. The module includes an EEPROM for storing module configuration data. The AM62x makes extensive use of functional pin multiplexing, providing a highly configurable device adaptable to a wide range of applications. Interfaces and functions available to users through the edge connector include: 2× USB 2.0 High-Speed ports supporting host/device/dual-role modes, 3× CAN-FD controller area network ports, 3× multi-channel audio serial ports, 2× industrial Gigabit Ethernet MACs, 2× SD/SDIO 4-bit ports with UHS-I support, 2× OLDI/LVDS display drivers, 1× 24-bit RGB display driver, 1× 4-lane MIPI CSI with DPHY, 3× enhanced capture modules, 3× enhanced PWM modules, 3× 32-bit enhanced quadrature pulse encoder modules, 4× timers, 3× SPI ports, 7× UART ports, and 3× I2C ports.
