Introduction

The miniature ultrasonic sensor features teach mode programming. The ultrasonic sensor emits one or more pulses of ultrasonic energy that travel through air at the speed of sound. A portion of the energy is reflected from the target and returns to the sensor. The sensor measures the total time required for the energy to reach the target and return, then calculates the distance to the object using the formula D = ct ÷ 2. The QS18U series ultrasonic sensors feature temperature compensation, which reduces temperature-induced errors by approximately 90%, maintaining window limits within 1.8% over the range of -20°C to +60°C (-4°F to +140°F).
