Introduction

The ultra-light and compact CsI-MacroPixel-MCA scintillation gamma radiation detection probe features a 14x14x25.4 mm (5 cm³) CsI(Tl) crystal coupled to a SiPM array, read out via a miniature USB multichannel analyzer. The CsI(Tl) sensor incorporates on-chip temperature stabilization and pile-up rejection, along with a rugged waterproof IP67 enclosure, making it well-suited for field or laboratory applications. The detector also includes a user-friendly GUI for Windows and Android devices. The CsI(Tl) inorganic scintillation crystal offers a moderate light output of 55,000 photons/MeV, a primary decay time of approximately 1000 ns, a density of 4.51 g/cm³, and a peak emission wavelength of approximately 550 nm. CsI scintillators are only slightly hygroscopic and are not prone to cracking under pressure. The energy resolution of the CsI-MacroPixel-MCA is typically close to 6% at 662 keV.
