Introduction

F16/F16S is a low-cost, high-performance general-purpose effects processor module available in two package options: a standard DIP24 through-hole package for IC socket mounting, and a compact QFN24 package suited for space-constrained designs with direct SMT capability. The module targets mixing consoles and instrument amplifiers, integrating the BETFX audio effects algorithm with a variety of effects including echo, delay, chorus, flanging, and reverb, for both vocal and instrument applications. Two categories of application firmware have been developed for this module: the first is plug-and-play firmware, where users can implement the module in their products by following the provided reference schematic — no external MCU is required, with a choice of 16-effect or 24-effect versions; the second is custom firmware, in which the module exposes a UART interface allowing the factory to connect a low-cost external MCU that sends parameters over UART, enabling flexible effect parameter configuration, custom display and button controls, and full use of the developer's design capabilities. Custom development services are also supported for integrating different algorithms. By connecting an external MCU, a wide range of products can be developed on top of this module — varying in number of effects, operational style, and display type — such as up to 320 effects with a dot-matrix display, a simplified 16-effect version with no display, or even integration of the module into a digital mixing console.
