Introduction

This specification covers the application requirements for 40-position right-angle SFP-DD PCB connectors. The connector consists of a housing and surface mount contacts on 0.8 centerline pitch. The connector features a card insertion slot that accommodates an IC card integrated within the transceiver at a thickness of 1.0 ± 0.1, along with locating posts and standoffs for stable placement on the PCB.

The connector is supplied in strip form for manual or robotic placement (typically vacuum pick-and-place).

Basic terminology and features of this product are shown in Figure 1.

The connector is designed to operate over a temperature range of -55°C to 85°C [-67°F to 185°F].

The housing is molded from liquid crystal polymer (LCP) thermoplastic material, rated UL 94-V-0. Contacts are copper alloy with an underplate of nickel, tin-plated solder tails, and gold or equivalent plating on the interface area.

PCB material shall be glass epoxy (FR-4 or G-10). Minimum PCB thickness is 1.57 for single-sided applications and 2.2 for back-to-back applications.

Maximum allowable bow of the board shall be 0.08 over the length of the connector. Coplanarity of PCB circuit pads must be 0.03.

Circuit pads must be solderable per EIA-364-52.

All holes and circuit pads must be accurately located on the PCB. The PCB layout must be designed using dimensions provided on the specific connector customer drawing. A recommended PCB layout reference sample is shown in Figure 2.
