Introduction

A variety of UL-listed modular plugs are available. All plugs feature 15 microinch gold-plated contacts for standard voice and data applications. Compatible with flat satin stranded, round stranded, and round solid cables. Keyed, MMJ, DEC type, shielded, and Cat 5 versions available. Flat modular cable types accommodate 24–28 AWG stranded wire. Round cable types accommodate 24–26 AWG stranded or solid wire.

The new patented EZ-RJ45 connector simplifies installation by allowing conductors to pass through the connector during insertion. No need to handle difficult-to-manage inserts or wire combs. Conductor sequence can be verified before crimping, eliminating wasted connectors due to miswiring. Conductors can be pulled forward to position the pairs very close to the contacts. This method maintains Cat 5 — and even enhanced Cat 5 and Cat 6 — performance (50 microinch gold plating). Both EZ-RJ12 and EZ-RJ45 can be crimped with most standard tools, then trimmed with a cutter or utility knife. However, the new BD45000 crimping tool completes both crimping and trimming of exposed conductors in a single operation. The tool's vertical action ensures uniform and reliable crimps.

Cat 5 insert plugs feature insertable conductor inserts, also known as the "wire comb" style. Insert separated conductors into the insert, trim flush at the bottom, insert into the RJ45 plug, then crimp perfectly (use CBX300 series boots for proper Cat 5 assembly).

Plastic wall outlets include mounting hardware for easy installation. Non-UL types are highly economical for applications where UL listing is not required. All outlets feature 15 microinch gold-plated contacts as standard. The round design with rear-entry terminals allows these wall outlets to fit all standard outlet boxes.
