Introduction

Using integrated circuit technology, this solution provides a robust surge protection approach that no longer relies on PN junction breakdown and current dissipation in conventional TVS diodes. Instead, it redirects surge current to ground through a built-in surge-rated FET, which offers lower on-resistance than the PN junction in a TVS diode. As a result, TDS devices deliver precise, smooth, temperature-independent clamping voltage, minimizing the residual voltage seen by the protected system. The TVS3300DRVR(ES) is well-suited for protecting power buses operating at voltages up to 33V, with a rated transient peak pulse current of 50A (tp = 8/20μs). The TDS comes in a compact DFN2020-6L package — 90% smaller than industry-standard SMA/SMB packages — featuring lower capacitance and 50% less leakage current compared to conventional TVS-based solutions.
