The Bourns 1675 Surge Protective Device (SPD) is designed for lineside railway applications to protect signaling and track circuits, as well as other circuits leaving the bungalow. The device features a heavy-duty multi-technology protection design that diverts surge current to ground during a lightning strike. If a protector unit fails due to a lightning strike, two visual indicators help technicians quickly identify activated units within the confined space of an electronics enclosure. The visual indicators are spring-loaded red flags that, when extended from the side of the arrester, indicate the unit should be replaced. A magnifier on top of the arrester allows inspection of the built-in fuse; if the fuse is blown, the arrester should be replaced. The arrester is also designed to prevent the signaling or track circuit from short-circuiting to ground in the event of a severe lightning strike.
