Introduction

The SP725 is an array of SCR/diode bipolar structures designed for ESD and overvoltage protection of sensitive input circuits. Each input incorporates 2 protective SCR/diode structures, providing a total of 4 available inputs capable of protecting up to 4 external signal or bus lines. Overvoltage protection extends from the IN pins (1 through 4) to V+ or V−. The SCR structures are designed to trigger rapidly when the voltage exceeds V+ by one +VBE diode threshold or falls below V− by one −VBE diode threshold. When a transient pulse drives the input voltage above V+ by one VBE, the clamp to V+ is activated. Similarly, if a negative pulse one VBE below V− is applied to an IN input, the clamp to V− is activated.
