Introduction

Low-power isolation transformers are used in a wide range of applications and circuits in the communications, computing, medical, industrial, and automotive markets, such as quasi-resonant and discontinuous mode flyback circuits. Selection of a suitable isolation transformer depends on the following factors: 1) Safety requirements of the end application: minimum isolation voltage consistent with the application working voltage; insulation class (functional insulation, basic insulation, reinforced insulation); minimum safety distances (creepage distance and clearance). 2) Electrical requirements of the end application: selected topology; input and output voltages determining the turns ratio; operating frequency, which together with input voltage determines the volt-second product; output power to ensure the selected component is properly sized. Pulse components are designed to comply with UL and TUV standards under specified conditions and conform to IEC60950, IEC61558, and IEC60601 safety standards. Selected designs have also been certified to safety standards. Pulse offers both commercial-grade and automotive-grade components.
