Introduction

Our line of plug-in input and output modules provides a low-cost, versatile approach to interconnecting real-world analog and digital signals to data acquisition, monitoring, or control systems. All modules provide an optically isolated barrier between sensitive microprocessor or digital logic circuits and field power devices. In G5 and OpenLine® packages, analog and digital I/O modules share identical pin assignments. This allows the flexibility to mix and match module types on the same rack or base, making them ideal for applications requiring interfaces with a wide variety of sensors and loads. Single-point module housing color identifies its function. Industry-standard housing colors for single-point I/O modules are: digital AC output modules = black housing; digital DC output modules = red housing; digital AC input modules = yellow housing; digital DC input modules = white housing. Digital output modules are used to switch AC and DC loads such as solenoids, motors, or lamps from logic signal levels. AC output modules turn on at zero voltage across the load to significantly reduce generated EMI and RFI. DC output modules can operate DC loads over a wide voltage range and feature built-in voltage spike protection. Digital input modules are used to monitor the status of loads or sensors. Input and output modules are compatible — the output of one module can drive the input of another. All of our I/O modules are hard-potted with thermally conductive epoxy to withstand harsh industrial environments. Modules provide optical isolation, resistance to mechanical shock and vibration, and operation over a wide temperature range.
