Introduction

The USB-ProxSonar-EZ is a high-performance ultrasonic proximity sensor that also functions as an ultrasonic rangefinder. The sensor uses a USB Micro-B connector for the sensor interface. It has a compact form factor with mounting holes on the PCB. The USB-ProxSonar-EZ sends serial data to the host operating system, which users can read from a registered COM port (or equivalent) using a terminal program, or directly from the OS using appropriate software functions. The USB-ProxSonar-EZ is powered via USB and begins operation after the USB handshake is complete. The sensor performs calibration on the first range reading. Distance data and proximity information are continuously sent to the host OS and can be read at any time. The connection is handled automatically by device drivers compatible with most operating systems (Windows XP and later, Linux kernel 2.6 and later, Mac OS X and later). Configuration steps may vary slightly depending on the target OS, but the general sensor operation and transmitted data remain unchanged. Operating temperature range is 0℃ to 50℃, with a recommended storage temperature of -40℃ to +65℃.
