Introduction

The US-100 ultrasonic distance sensor is very similar to the popular HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor and shares the same form factor, but offers some additional features. The sensor operates at 3–5V, requiring no logic level converter or voltage divider, and can be powered directly from a microcontroller. It can be used in "HC-SR04" mode or "Serial UART" mode. With the back jumper removed, it behaves like an HC-SR04 with trigger and echo pins; with the jumper installed, it communicates via UART at 9600 baud. In UART mode, sending 0x55 reads the distance in millimeters, and sending 0x50 reads the temperature. These sensors are common in robotics projects and can also be used in automation, interactive art, and motion sensing.
