Introduction

This is a compact, high-performance single-transducer sensor. The SRF01 ultrasonic rangefinder uses Devantech's second-generation auto-tuning technology to achieve ranging from 6 meters (19.7 feet) down to zero on a single-transducer sonar module. Up to 16 SRF01 modules can be connected to a single microcontroller line using a simple (3.3~5V tolerant) TTL serial network protocol consisting of a "Break", a 2-byte sensor address, and a command. The addressed SRF01 will respond accordingly (see Resources). There are two distinct operating modes for the SRF01. The standard mode is "Advanced Mode," which enables ranging all the way to the transducer (0 cm). This requires the SRF01 to take 5 readings at 30 cm or greater and set an internal calibration bit. "Standard Mode" does not require this calibration procedure, but reduces the effective ranging distance to 18 cm–6 m (7 inches–19.7 feet). For convenient installation, a rubber grommet is included for mounting the SRF01, securing the sensor to panels no thicker than 1.7 mm (0.067 inches). The mounting grommet is included, but the 3-pin JST cable is not.
