Introduction

To ensure proper bonding of strain gauges and temperature sensors, the workpiece surface must be chemically clean and completely free of contamination before adhesive application. For steel and aluminum components with finished or formed surfaces, the surface preparation procedure can be summarized as follows: first, remove oily contaminants using a solvent cleaner; then perform light abrasion in the presence of a mildly acidic cleaning solution to eliminate oxides and mechanically bonded contaminants; finally, thoroughly scrub the surface with an alkaline solution to complete the cleaning process and bring the surface to a pH suitable for bonding. When the cleaning procedure is carried out strictly in accordance with the relevant instructions and high-quality cleaning agents are used, the surface will be in an optimum condition for bonding.
