Introduction

The Universal Power Unit is a motor load sensor used to monitor power (horsepower or kilowatts). It is suitable for fixed and variable frequency power supplies, featuring two analog outputs. It is also compatible with single-phase, DC, and brushless DC power supplies. The Universal Power Unit incorporates three balanced Hall effect sensors, each with a flux concentrator. Each phase current passes through a window while a voltage sample for each phase is simultaneously acquired. The Hall effect semiconductor performs vector multiplication of current and voltage while calculating the power factor. The output is proportional to power (horsepower or kilowatts).
