Introduction

This device is an advanced proximity sensor. The slim module integrates an infrared LED and a factory-calibrated LED driver. The proximity detection function uses a photodiode to detect reflected infrared energy (emitted by the integrated LED), enabling object detection (e.g., the distance between a mobile device screen and the user's ear). Detection/release events are interrupt-driven, occurring when proximity results exceed upper and/or lower threshold settings. The proximity engine features an offset adjustment register to compensate for unwanted infrared energy reflections at the sensor. Proximity results are further improved through automatic ambient light cancellation.
