Introduction

The GCT Series heavy-duty gaging probes deliver high performance in environments containing moisture, dust, and liquid contaminants. Featuring a spring-loaded LVDT, precision linear bearings, and internal signal conditioning electronics operating in a 4 to 20mA loop, they are well-suited for harsh industrial environments and remote locations where sensor power is difficult to obtain and long cable runs are required. The 4–20mA signal is far less susceptible to EMI and RFI than low-amplitude AC or DC signals. These rugged probes measure over ranges from 0 to 0.250 inches (6.35mm) up to 0 to 2 inches (50.8mm). Spring force is typically 9 oz (255g) at full electrical stroke compression. A removable black chrome-hardened tool steel probe tip attaches to the working end via threaded connection (4-48UNF-2A). The internal design prevents the core and shaft from rotating during longitudinal travel. An integral electrical connector (solder type) simplifies installation and allows damaged cables to be replaced without harming the sensor. Each unit includes external 1/2-20 mounting threads and two jam nuts for easy mounting and adjustment. GCT windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is potted in the housing with a two-part epoxy, providing excellent resistance to harsh environments including high vibration and shock. The durability, long service life, and high reliability of the GCT Series result in the lowest total cost of ownership over the entire service life of the equipment.
