Introduction

The PTS-420 Series Position Transmitter combines a linear position sensor with custom electronics and a rugged splash-proof housing. Designed for operation in harsh environments, the PTS-420 provides a 4-20mA current loop output, making it ideal for process control applications. The transmitter operates on a +10.5 to +28VDC loop voltage; onboard signal conditioning electronics convert the DC input voltage to the AC excitation voltage required by the position sensor and demodulate the AC voltage output into a smooth 4-20mA signal. Zero and span are adjustable via 10-turn potentiometers, which — along with the barrier terminal strip — are easily accessible by removing the top cover, simplifying installation and calibration. The PTS-420 is available in multiple linear measurement ranges from 0.25 to 10 inches, and its rugged construction and reliable performance meet the demands of the most challenging applications, including power generation, rolling mills, and water treatment plants. The 4-20mA current loop output is compatible with most PLCs and supports operation over long cable runs. In addition, the windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is encapsulated within the housing using a two-component epoxy, providing effective resistance to harsh environmental conditions such as high humidity, vibration, and shock.
