Introduction

The AWM2000 series microbridge mass flow sensors are passive devices consisting of two Wheatstone bridges. As specified, the heater control circuit shown in Figure 1 is required for operation. As specified, the bridge supply circuit shown in Figure 2 is also required for operation. These two circuits are not integrated within the package and must be provided in the application. The differential amplifier shown in Figure 3 is a useful interface for the sensing bridge. It can be used to introduce gain and apply a voltage offset to the sensor output as described in Equation 1. For applications sensing hydrogen or helium, refer to Application Note 3 on page 131. The output signal voltage is proportional to the supply voltage. The temperature offset when sensing differential pressure is related to the variation of gas density with temperature. Refer to Application Note 1. To prevent damage, the maximum allowable flow rate of change is 5.0 SLPM/1.0 second. Positive flow direction is defined as flow from Port 1 to Port 2, producing a positive output. Negative flow direction is defined as the opposite, producing a negative output. Do not apply a force greater than 4.54 kg in any direction. The calibration type, mass flow or differential pressure, is indicated in bold numbers. Tolerance values apply only to the calibration type. It is not recommended to use differential pressure calibrated devices for flow measurement. Use flow-calibrated devices for flow measurement.
