Introduction

This non-contact capacitive liquid level sensor features a slim, lightweight flexible substrate. The back is fitted with high-temperature-resistant, waterproof 3M tape, allowing easy attachment to any non-conductive container surface with a wall thickness less than 5mm. The sensor outputs digital high/low signals (low when liquid is detected) via a 3-pin Dupont connector, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including water tank detection, beverage dispensers, water pipe level monitoring, and scientific test tube liquid level detection. Its operating principle relies on the inductive capacitance of water to detect the presence of liquid. When no liquid is near the sensor, a baseline static capacitance exists due to stray capacitance. As the liquid level slowly rises toward the sensor, the parasitic capacitance of the liquid couples with the static capacitance, increasing the overall capacitance of the sensor. The resulting capacitance signal is fed into a control IC for signal conversion, where capacitance is converted into a corresponding electrical signal variation. A dedicated algorithm then detects and evaluates the degree of change. When the variation exceeds a defined threshold, the liquid level is determined to have reached the sensing point.
