Introduction

The HEDS-978x series is a high-performance, low-cost optical incremental encoder module. When used with a codewheel or codestrip, the module detects rotational or linear position. The module consists of a LED light source with a lens and a detector IC, housed in a small C-shaped plastic package. Due to the highly collimated light source and unique photodetector array, the module offers exceptional tolerance to mounting misalignment. Two-channel digital outputs and 5V power input are accessed via four solder pad leads with a 2.54 mm center spacing. The standard HEDS-978x is designed for use with codewheels of 11 mm optical radius or linear codestrips.
