Introduction

SMD-04B is a high-precision optical encoder IC that employs a diffraction image reflection method. It integrates a photoelectric IC and an LED within a single package. Light emitted by the LED is projected onto a scale, and the reflected diffraction image is detected by photodiode detectors to determine the relative displacement between the SMD-04B and the scale. By incorporating an origin detection pattern on the scale, a Z-phase origin signal can also be output. In addition, a photodiode detector array is employed to minimize phase characteristic degradation caused by variations in mounting accuracy.
