Introduction

MFRC522 is a highly integrated contactless reader IC operating at 13.56MHz. It supports multiple contactless communication methods and protocols, featuring high integration with minimal external components and direct antenna driving capability. In reader/writer mode, the typical operating distance can reach up to 70mm, depending on antenna design and power supply. The IC offers multiple host interface options including I2C, UART, and SPI, and incorporates a 64-byte FIFO buffer, flexible interrupt modes, low-power hardware/software power-down modes, LPCD functionality, a programmable timer, an internal oscillator (requiring a 27.12MHz crystal), wide supply voltage range (2.5V~5V), a CRC coprocessor, programmable I/O pins, and an internal self-test function.
