Introduction

MICRF103 is a single-chip transmitter IC designed for remote wireless applications. The device incorporates Micrel's latest QwikRadio technology. It is a true "data-in, antenna-out" monolithic device. All antenna tuning is performed automatically within the IC, eliminating the need for manual tuning and thereby reducing production costs. The result is a highly reliable, ultra-low-cost solution for high-volume wireless applications. As a true single-chip radio transmitter, the MICRF103 is easy to apply, minimizing design and production costs while accelerating time-to-market. The MICRF103 employs a novel architecture in which the external antenna is tuned by an internal UHF synthesizer. The transmitter is designed to comply with international radio regulations governing the global UHF license-free frequency bands. The IC is compatible with virtually all ASK/OOK UHF receiver types, ranging from wideband super-regenerative radios to narrowband, high-performance superheterodyne receivers. The transmitter is designed to handle transmit data rates up to 115kbps. The auto-tuning function in conjunction with an external resistor ensures that the transmitter output power remains constant at the maximum regulatory transmit power limit throughout the battery life. When used in conjunction with Micrel's QwikRadio receiver family, the MICRF103 delivers the lowest-cost, most reliable remote actuator and RF link systems.
