Introduction
ESP32-WROVER-B and ESP32-WROVER-IB are two general-purpose Wi-Fi + Bluetooth + Bluetooth LE MCU modules. Powerful and versatile, they can be used in low-power sensor networks as well as demanding applications such as voice encoding, audio streaming, and MP3 decoding.
ESP32-WROVER-B features an on-board PCB antenna, while ESP32-WROVER-IB integrates an external antenna connector for use with an external antenna. Both modules are equipped with 4 MB SPI flash and 8 MB SPI PSRAM.
ESP32-WROVER-B and ESP32-WROVER-IB are built around the ESP32-D0WD chip from the ESP32 family. The ESP32-D0WD is scalable and adaptive. The two CPU cores can be controlled independently. The CPU clock frequency is adjustable from 80 MHz to 240 MHz. Users can power down the CPU and use the low-power coprocessor to monitor peripheral status changes or whether certain analog values exceed a threshold. ESP32 also integrates a rich set of peripherals, including capacitive touch sensors, Hall sensor, SD card interface, Ethernet interface, high-speed SPI, UART, I2S, and I2C.
The module integrates classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE, and Wi-Fi, enabling a wide range of applications: Wi-Fi supports long-range connectivity and direct internet access through a router, while Bluetooth allows users to connect to mobile phones or broadcast Bluetooth LE Beacons for signal detection. The ESP32 chip's sleep current is less than 5 μA, making it suitable for battery-powered wearable electronics. The module supports data transfer rates of up to 150 Mbps and an antenna output power of 20 dBm, enabling maximum-range wireless communication. As a result, this module delivers industry-leading specifications with outstanding performance in integration density, wireless range, power consumption, and network connectivity.
The operating system for ESP32 is freeRTOS with LwIP, with built-in TLS 1.2 with hardware acceleration. The chip also supports OTA encrypted upgrades, allowing users to continue updating their products after release.
