Introduction

Start your design with this fully programmable wireless microcontroller (MCU) module, which is FCC, IC/ISED, ETSI/CE, MIC, and SRRC certified and features built-in dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity. The module integrates a 40MHz crystal, a 32.768kHz RTC clock, 32Mb SPI serial flash, RF filters, a duplexer, and passive components.

The SimpleLink™ CC3235MODx module comes in two models:

• The CC3235MODS includes 256KB RAM, IoT network security, device identity and keys, and MCU-level security features such as file system encryption, user IP (MCU image) encryption, secure boot, and debug security.
• The CC3235MODSF is built on the CC3235MODS and integrates a user-specific 1MB executable flash in addition to the 256KB RAM.

The SimpleLink™ CC3235MODAx module also offers two models:

• The CC3235MODAS includes 256KB RAM, IoT network security, device identity and keys, and MCU-level security features such as file system encryption, user IP (MCU image) encryption, secure boot, and debug security.
• The CC3235MODASF is based on the CC3235MODAS and integrates a user-specific 1MB executable flash in addition to the 256KB RAM.

The CC3235MODx and CC3235MODAx module families are designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) and are wireless modules integrating two physically isolated on-chip MCUs.

• Application Processor - An Arm® Cortex®-M4 MCU with a user-specific 256KB RAM and an optional 1MB executable flash.
• Network Processor for running all Wi-Fi and Internet logical layers. This ROM-based subsystem fully offloads the host MCU and includes an 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio, baseband, and a MAC with a powerful hardware encryption engine.

This generation introduces new features that further simplify IoT connectivity. The main new features include:

• 802.11a/b/g/n: 2.4GHz and 5GHz support
• Coexistence of 2.4GHz with low-power Bluetooth radio
• Antenna diversity
• Enhanced security with an internal IC verified to FIPS 140 - 2 Level 1: Authentication. More secure sockets can be opened simultaneously (up to 16).

• Wi-Fi Alliance certified for IoT applications with low-power functionality and other features
• Hostless mode to reduce template packet transmission load

The CC3235MODx and CC3235MODAx device families are part of the SimpleLink MCU platform, which is a common and easy-to-use development environment based on a single-core Software Development Kit (SDK) with a rich set of tools and reference designs. The E2E™ support forum provides support for Wi-Fi, low-power Bluetooth, sub-1GHz, and host MCUs.
