Introduction

The CC2570 and CC2571 are ANT RF network processors that implement the ANT protocol with high power efficiency and ease of use. The CC2570 supports one ANT channel, while the CC2571 supports 8 ANT channels. The CC2570/71 connects to a host MCU (such as the MSP430) via a UART or SPI serial interface and is accessed through a set of API calls. The CC2570/71 has most of the ANT protocol built in, including ANT-FS file system functionality; only the application layer and profile layer need to reside on the host MCU, thereby minimizing host MCU memory requirements. The ANT protocol is designed for ultra-high power efficiency, while also providing sufficient flexibility to support various network topologies (point-to-point, star, connected star, 1-to-N, and N-to-1) and data transfer modes (broadcast, acknowledged, and burst data transfer). Each logical ANT channel can be independently configured to operate in either unidirectional or bidirectional mode, depending on application requirements.
