Introduction
The CC3120R device is part of the SimpleLink MCU platform, which includes Wi-Fi, low-power Bluetooth, Sub-1GHz devices, and host MCUs. They all share a common, easy-to-use development environment featuring a single-core SDK and a rich set of tools. With the one-time integration of the SimpleLink platform, any combination of devices from the product portfolio can be added to your design, enabling 100% code reuse when design requirements change.
Connect any MCU to the IoT via the CC3120R device. Wi-Fi Alliance-certified, the CC3120R belongs to the second-generation SimpleLink Wi-Fi solution series, greatly simplifying the implementation of low-power internet connectivity.
The CC3120R supports all Wi-Fi and internet protocols implemented in ROM, running on a dedicated on-chip Arm network processor, significantly reducing the burden on the host MCU and simplifying system integration.
The CC3120R Wi-Fi Internet-on-a-chip device contains a dedicated Arm MCU that offloads many networking activities from the host MCU. This subsystem includes an 802.11b/g/n radio, baseband, and MAC with a powerful cryptographic engine using 256-bit encryption for fast and secure internet connectivity. The CC3120R supports station, access point, and Wi-Fi Direct modes. The device also supports WPA2 Personal and Enterprise security, as well as WPA3 Personal and Enterprise. It includes an embedded TCP/IP and TLS/SSL stack, HTTP server, and multiple internet protocols. The CC3120R supports various Wi-Fi provisioning methods, including HTTP-based access point mode, SmartConfig technology, and WPS2.0.
As part of TI's second-generation SimpleLink Wi-Fi series, the CC3120R introduces new features and enhancements, such as:
IPv6 enhanced Wi-Fi provisioning with optimized low-power management
• Wi-Fi AP supports connections to up to 4 stations
• More BSD sockets can be opened simultaneously; up to 16 BSD sockets, with 6 supporting secure connections (HTTPS)
• RESTful API support with asymmetric key cryptography library
The CC3120R device comes with a slim, user-friendly host driver that simplifies the integration and development of network applications. The host driver is easily portable to most platforms and operating systems (OS). Written in strict ANSI-C (C99), the driver requires only a minimal platform adaptation layer (porting layer). It has a very small memory footprint and can run on 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit MCUs at any clock speed (no high-performance clock or real-time clock required).
The CC3120R device is offered in an easy-to-layout VQFN package as a complete platform solution, including various tools and software, sample applications, user and programming guides, reference designs, and the TI E2E support community. The CC3120R device is part of the SimpleLink MCU ecosystem.
