Introduction

The CC2620 device is a wireless MCU primarily targeting ZigBee RF4CE remote control applications, covering both controller and target nodes. This device belongs to the SimpleLink CC26xx family as a cost-effective, ultra-low-power 2.4GHz RF device. Its extremely low active RF and MCU current consumption, combined with low-power mode leakage, ensures exceptional battery life, making it suitable for small coin cell batteries and energy harvesting applications. The SimpleLink Bluetooth Low Energy CC2620 device integrates a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 core running at 48MHz — the same frequency as the main processor — along with a rich peripheral feature set, including a unique ultra-low-power sensor controller. This sensor controller is well-suited for interfacing with external sensors and for autonomously collecting analog and digital data while the rest of the system remains in sleep mode. As a result, the CC2620 device is an ideal choice for ZigBee RF4CE remote controls, supporting voice, motion control, RF-IR hybrid remote controls, capacitive touch QWERTY keyboards, and STB/target nodes. The IEEE 802.15.4 MAC is embedded in ROM and runs independently on an ARM Cortex-M0 processor. This architecture improves overall system performance and power efficiency while freeing up flash memory for applications. Software protocol stack support for this device includes the ZigBee RF4CE protocol stack (RemoTI).
